Volunteering within our community is a good way to become involved in the place where you live and work. Please consider volunteering with one of the following organizations:
Novant Health Clemmons Medical Center – Volunteers provide an invaluable community service that is appreciated by everyone they encounter. They also enjoy camaraderie with others who share the same interest in serving people in a healthcare setting.
As a volunteer you’ll help to present the friendly, caring face we’re known for, by assisting patients and visitors in many ways, including:
- Greeting and escorting patients and families through our facility
- Serving at reception desks and information centers
- Giving patients and visitors directions and helping them find their way
No experience is necessary. As a new volunteer, you’ll attend one of our monthly orientation classes and receive training before you begin to volunteer.
For more information about joining the volunteer team at Novant Health Clemmons Medical Center, please call Elesha Kirkland at 336-893-1338 or email elkirkland@novanthealth.org.
Humane Society of Davie County – A non-profit 501c3 group seeking to make a difference in the lives of animals in North Carolina. HSDC’s mission is to raise awareness in the community about the needs of animals and place numerous previously unwanted animals into loving homes. The adoption center is only able to help abandoned dogs and cats with the aid of loving volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with HSDC, fill out an application at davienchumane.org. The Montessori School of Winston-Salem – Established in 1973, The Montessori School of Winston-Salem (TMS) has served the children and families of Triad for more than 45 years. Located on a beautiful 15 acre campus in Clemmons, TMS is an independent, non-profit school offering a high quality Montessori education for children 18 months through 9th grade.
The TMS Board of Trustees is currently seeking new trustees to provide strategic, non-operational leadership in support of the school’s mission. The Board is comprised of volunteers, the majority of whom are not current TMS parents, who are passionate about ensuring an excellent Montessori education for current and future TMS students. With the TMS Blueprint and the strategic goals of our current strategic plan as a base, the Board selects trustees from the community at large, looking for volunteers who are strategic thinkers, committed to TMS and its mission and who have skills and experiences that will help advance the school’s strategic objectives. Current skills sets and experiences the Board is seeking at this time include:
- Fundraising and /or capital campaign experience
- Business finance and financial planning skills
- Commercial construction or real estate law
- Previous non-profit board experience
- Individuals well connected in our Winston-Salem community
Those interested in volunteer Board service should contact Jon Churn, Head of School at jonathanchurn@wsmontessori.org or the Board of Trustees directly at trustees@wsmontessori.org.

Hospice & Palliative CareCenter – At Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, we believe that volunteers are the heart of Hospice, generously offering their time, talents and endless energy. The reasons people volunteer are endless. Some people volunteer because they want to give back to their community; others volunteer because they believe in the vision and mission of Hospice. And, then there are some who volunteer for Hospice because they have been personally impacted by the warmth of Hospice care at a difficult time in their loved one’s life. Regardless of their reason, most volunteers will modestly say that they receive much more than they give.
Hospice & Palliative CareCenter volunteers come from all walks of life and represent the cultural diversity of our community. Volunteers are students, homemakers, professionals, seniors and retirees who care enough to share their spare time either during the day, in the evening, or on weekends.
Whether it’s offering assistance in the office, making a weekly visit to a patient’s home, or helping with an annual fund-raising activity, volunteers are greatly appreciated and essential to the Hospice team.
