Jorge Vidal opened the December general meeting and welcomed chamber members and guests.
New chamber members were welcomed. They are: Rick Baker with Clemmons Free Press and new Corporate member: Frank Samuelson with Clemmons Community Foundation.
Next, Jody Peske made a motion to approve the minutes from the November meeting. Paul Johnson seconded the motion and the minutes were approved.
Tim Miller with Simply Southern Cuisine spoke about the catering and food they offer. For more information please visit their website at: www.mysimplysouthern.com.
Sponsor member, Claudia Page, with The Portrait Gallery gave a two minute infomercial on the services she offers. She mentioned that in January she will offer a special for chamber members that want a professional photograph taken for their website.
Next, Sponsor member, Jody Peske, with Keller Williams Realty gave a two minute infomercial on focusing on what is important during the home buying/selling process. She offers a stress less (as possible) experience when moving. Contact Jody if you are thinking about moving.
Joanna Lyall next spoke about Clemmons Community Day on April 26th. The chamber will be partnering with the Jerry Long YMCA again. Chamber members will also be contacted soon about sponsorships.
Next, Dana Bryson, VP of Economic Development gave a presentation on the economic development in this area. Her information can be found on our website at: www.lewisville-clemmons.com. Please look under the tab News/Chamber News.
Ms. Leslie Martin with the West Forsyth Finance Academy was introduced next. She gave a description on what her class offers students at West Forsyth High School. They are affiliated with the National Academy Foundation. Her class is a three year program for college bound students that are interested in business. Junior and senior students will do internships in the community. She is looking for businesses to hire one of her students for 100 hours of work. This year, 30 students will need an internship. She is also looking for speakers to come and speak to her class.
Matthew Ingram from West Forsyth High School spoke next. He is a student of Ms. Martin. He loves the program and wants to study business and is looking for an internship.
The chamber next made a donation to Ms. Martin for her West Forsyth Finance Academy class. The funds given were collected from the chamber meetings from the $5.00 one minute infomercials.
Next, an auction was held to raise additional funds for Ms. Martin’s class. Three Anne Grant Photography donated prints were auctioned off to the following individuals: Brad Romaine – $50.00; Brad Hunter – $70.00; and Edie Bergman – $85.00. The additional funds collected will also be donated to the Finance Academy. Jorge asked if the winners could write a check to the chamber and we will give the money to Ms. Martin.
The 2013 Membership Awards were handed out next. The winners were are follows: Tim Miller with Simply Southern Cuisine, “Community Service Award”, Lisa Miller with Simply Southern Cuisine, “Caterer of Choice Award”, Dana Bryson with Village Inn Event Center, “Leadership Award”, Amy Gardner and Teresa Lindsay with Lindsay & Gardner CPAs, LLP, “Member of the Year Award”, and Jorge Vidal with Jorge Vidal State Farm Insurance, “Leadership Award”.
The 2014 Board of Directors was introduced next. They are: Chairperson, Joanna Lyall; Vice Chairperson, Dana Bryson; Past Chairperson, Jorge Vidal; Secretary, Linda Winstead; Treasurer, Jody Peske; Members-at-Large, Edie Bergman, Amy Gardner, Brad Hunter and Chad Setliff; VP of Membership, Zach Manning; VP of Economic Development, Jack Ingle; VP of Networking, Cindy Rehmeyer; VP of Education, Mike Bailey; VP of Community Service, Tim Miller; VP of Public Relations, Suzy Fielders; and VP of Meetings and Events, Claudia Page.
The following chamber members did a one minute infomercial: Dana Bryson with Village Inn and Event Center; Shea Crutchfield with The Mosquito Authority; Keela Johnson with Forsyth Family/Woman Magazines; Dan Santarelli with Modern Toyota; Shawn Dulaney with Dulaney Group, Kate Allred with Lowes Foods and Zach Manning with Good Deeds Insurance.
Door prizes were handed out.
Meeting was adjourned.
