Economic Development (by definition):

* The planned and guided growth of business that brings new energy and affluence to the community not only in the form of new jobs and higher wages and salaries, but also in terms of better education, stronger infrastructure and a more rewarding lifestyle.

* Promoting “the Quality of Life”.

Commercial Development / New Business

East Coast Wings

There are discussions for WS/FC Schools to buy two parcels of land and build a middle school adjacent to Southwest Elementary School that is in a preliminary stage. They have exercised an option to buy these parcels.

NC Wildlife Resources Commission stocked 700 channel catfish in Village Point Lake.

We are officially a fishing destination!

Village of Clemmons Developments

At our last Chamber meeting, Megan Ledbetter, our Village Planner, gave an educational overview of the idea of an Overlay District. The developments from these ongoing discussions are intended to further the mission of the Comprehensive Plan.

Mrs. Ledbetter and Gary Looper, the Village Manager, invited all of us to participate in the small group discussions regarding redevelopment of Lewisville-Clemmons Road. They were held on June 18th, 19th, 20th and June 26th.

There was very little participation, and I’d like to give them some feedback whether there is any interest from this group to continue small group discussions. I anticipate more small group discussions from the Village with a targeted group of affected business owners and stakeholders.

Residential Developments.

In Clemmons – we had 60 closed sales in May. 283 Active listings in May.

In Lewisville – we had 12 closed sales in May. 135 Active listing in May.

New construction presales have increases and spec builds are selling before they are finished.

Other Developments that are being followed and are in process:

Wake Forest Baptist Health’s West Campus

312 unit apartment complex by developer Chris Parr in Village Point

Stoplight at the Allegacy Way intersection of Panera Bread

The Town of Lewisville is purchasing land and developing a lift / pump station on Harper Road.

New round about at corner of Oaks Shopping Center that will take in Shallowford Rd., Williams Rd., and Heritage Drive

Yadkin River Greenway Project 

New Skilled Nursing Home development at the Harper Rd./Fair Oaks

New Assisted Living development across from West Forsyth YMCA called “Carrillon Assisted Living”.

There is a new residential development called Lauren Acres underway on Kinnamon Rd. with price ranges from $299,000-350,000 for 10 new custom built homes.

NCDOT discussions regarding the Western Beltway project changes

Business Achievements

I was asked to research who the oldest still existing business in Clemmons, and so far I have Pete’s Restaurant.  If you have any other input, I’m curious to know.
